Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care within a hospital setting. The RN will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing care while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate care to postpartum patients and their newborns during the immediate and extended recovery period
- Perform comprehensive assessments of mothers (e.g., fundal checks, lochia, pain levels) and newborns (e.g., temperature, feeding, bonding)
- Monitor vital signs, manage pain control, and assess for signs of postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or infection
- Support safe newborn care, including thermoregulation, feeding support (breast and bottle), diapering, and bathing education
- Administer postpartum and neonatal medications and vaccinations as ordered (e.g., Rhogam, MMR, Vitamin K, Hep B)
- Educate and support parents in infant care, maternal recovery, breastfeeding, safe sleep, and postpartum mental health
- Facilitate and encourage bonding activities, including skin-to-skin contact and rooming-in
- Identify and respond to signs of neonatal distress or maternal complications, initiating appropriate interventions
- Collaborate with pediatricians, lactation consultants, and OB providers to support holistic care for both mother and baby
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Paragon)
- Uphold ethical standards and advocate for patient rights, informed consent, and culturally sensitive care
- Delegate tasks appropriately to LPNs, CNAs, and techs while maintaining accountability for overall care
- Support discharge planning through education and readiness assessments for both patients and newborns
- Comply with hospital infection control policies and universal precautions in all clinical activities
- Perform other nursing duties as required within the maternity or nursery unit, and the scope of licensure
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (State-specific or Compact)
- 1–2 years of recent experience in the designated unit/specialty
- BLS certification (CPR AHA, NIHSS) – required
- Preferred Certifications: STABLE, NRP
- ACLS certification – required for critical care units (ICU, ER, Telemetry, etc.)
- Other certifications specific to the Unit
- Proficient with EMR systems (Epic, Meditech, Cerner, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology and best practices across all age groups
- Unit-specific certifications (as applicable)
