Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care within a hospital setting. The RN will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing care while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate care to patients throughout all stages of labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum
- Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, monitoring fetal heart tones, contractions, and maternal vital signs
- Recognize and respond promptly to complications or changes in maternal or fetal status with appropriate clinical interventions
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and epidural support as prescribed, and assist with pain management strategies
- Assist physicians or midwives with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and emergency obstetric procedures
- Support patients and families emotionally, providing education and advocacy throughout the birthing process
- Uphold ethical standards and advocate for patient rights, informed consent, and autonomy in labor and delivery decisions
- Maintain accurate, real-time documentation using EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Paragon)
- Delegate tasks appropriately to LPNs, techs, and support staff while retaining accountability for overall patient care
- Prioritize and manage multiple patient needs in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Practice in accordance with current evidence-based guidelines, hospital policies, and AWHONN standards
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and L&D team members to ensure safe and effective care
- Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal nursing regulations
- Participate in newborn care and stabilization, including APGAR scoring, skin-to-skin contact, and breastfeeding support
- Perform other nursing duties as required within the L&D unit and the scope of licensure
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (State-specific or Compact)
- 1–2 years of recent experience in the designated unit/specialty
- BLS certification (CPR AHA, NIHSS) – required
- Preferred Certifications: STABLE, NRP
- ACLS certification – required for critical care units (ICU, ER, Telemetry, etc.)
- Other certifications specific to the Unit
- Proficient with EMR systems (Epic, Meditech, Cerner, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with medical terminology and best practices across all age groups
- Unit-specific certifications (as applicable)
